How to check the actual mileage of a car?

How to determine the real mileage of a car? Today, this question worries many motorists who are planning to buy a used car. After all, everyone knows that in most cases, before selling equipment, it undergoes pre-sale training, as a result of which specialized companies offer to officially reduce the mileage. Therefore, now you cannot so easily trust the meter on the instrument panel, but you need to have information on how to determine the real meter readings.
Depending on the types of devices and their devices, there are different ways to twist odometers. There are two types of car odometers - digital and analog.
Now all cars are produced with electronic digital meters. Mileage information is displayed here not only on the dashboard, but is also stored in the controller. Services to reduce the mileage of such a meter are inexpensive, but this applies only to changes on the instrument panel screen. And correction in the electronic unit will be quite expensive. Only owners of expensive cars can afford this.
Twisting of analog counters is done in two ways:
- electric drill;
- you can disassemble the device itself.
Traces from such actions are easy to see. The seal will either be broken or the fastenings will be deformed. You can also see the crooked position of the digital reels. But at the moment this is not so relevant, since analog odometers are not installed on modern cars.
To understand whether the electronic counter is twisted, you need to remove information from the controller. This can be done at the dealership. If you take Japanese cars, you won’t be able to read the data without special factory equipment, and it’s almost impossible to change them.
You can also determine the actual mileage based on the annual average mileage. It is approximately 20 to 30 thousand kilometers. And if we multiply this figure by the number of years of the equipment, we will get a mileage close to the real one.
There are some other features that reflect the correct mileage. This will be indicated by the technical condition of the following parts:
- brake discs, the presence of deep grooves indicates that the car has traveled at least 30 thousand kilometers;
- pedal pads;
- tyres, they are changed every 40-50 thousand kilometers;
- paint, the car has passed at least 90 thousand, if it has chips on the hood, front pillars, radiator.
From all of the above, we can conclude that if you pay enough attention to inspecting the car and ask the seller all the questions you are interested in, then you can very easily identify an attempt to deceive.
