Training sports massage was developed and improved on the basis of the classic one. It is intended for healthy people and athletes as a treatment for injuries sustained during training. Professional athletes definitely include it in their training schedule. Often, massage is a key component of success.

Sports massage keeps the body and muscles in good shape. It is also aimed at increasing efficiency, endurance and helping to relieve fatigue and overexertion.

Types of sports massage:

  1. Training: relieves muscle tension, tones and prepares the body for new loads;
  2. Preliminary: performed immediately before training and competitions. Relieves fatigue and overstrain, warms up muscles, increasing blood flow;
  3. Restorative: used after exercise. Its main purpose is to restore and enhance blood circulation. And also reduce muscle soreness and help eliminate metabolic products.

Sports massage is a system of influencing, first of all, a trained person. Therefore, when prescribing it, a number of factors are taken into account, such as age, health status and the presence of pathologies.

Contraindications for sports massage: pregnancy, bleeding, various skin diseases and inflammatory processes, fever and alcohol intoxication.

The massage begins with relaxing strokes of the back, arms and neck. The massage therapist's hands always move towards the lymph nodes. Manipulations should not cause pain or discomfort to the patient.

Basic techniques of sports massage:

  • Strokes: soothe, relax, stimulate the skin's sweat and sebaceous glands. Movements are slow and soft, or fast and rhythmic, depending on the tasks;
  • Press-ups: stimulate the nerve endings that are located in the muscles and blood vessels. Warm muscle tissue and speed up metabolism. The effects are energetic, with pressure on the massage area;
  • Rubbing: used for injuries, to remove pathological formations in muscle tissue. They are performed very energetically, with more pressure than during push-ups;
  • Kneading: increases muscle tone, improves blood supply to tissues. They perform kneading at different paces and with different efforts;
  • Effleurage, patting: used to relieve muscle tension. Performed energetically, but effortlessly.

Before the session, the massage therapist conducts a survey to collect information to determine the duration of the course and the method of influence. If there were injuries, then an additional manual examination will be carried out to determine the condition of the muscles, joints and their mobility. To achieve a long-lasting effect, it is recommended to massage at least once a week.
